1. Lima 2400B crane mounted on a pedestal which raises the crane about 25’ off of the deck of the barge. The operators cab has been elevated to allow maximum view into an ocean carrier. The Lima cranes were manufactured as crawler cranes for use in dragline and lift work. We removed the tracks when the cranes were mounted on the elevated pedestals. The cranes have 120’ of boom and are powered by Cat Model D379 engines.
2. Each of the barges are slightly different dimensions, but are between 180’ – 195’ long, 60’ – 64’ wide, and 10’ – 12’ deep. All were former deck barges modified for this use.
3. The barges are outfitted with two, multi drum winches, one mounted on each side of the barge. The winches are used to secure and move the rig along the ship, and to secure and move the river barge alongside the rig.
4. Power for the winches and other electrical equipment on the barge is provided by two 100 kw generators.
5. Each barge has an approximately 8,000 gallon diesel tank for power to the crane and generators.
6. Each crane is outfitted with two clamshell buckets; an 8 ½ yd for heavier cargoes like pig iron and ores and an 18 – 20 yd for fertilizer and grain.
7. There are “day” quarters for the crew, covered workshop, compressors, welding equipment etc on board.
